Bill-payment extensions available for customers experiencing financial hardships
In response to growing COVID-19 concerns, the Clarksdale Public Utilities Commission voted today to expedite CPU’s process for bill-payment extensions in order to provide relief for customers facing financial hardships.
“We at CPU are part of the community we serve, and we promise nothing short of maximum flexibility during these unprecedented times,” said CPU General Manager Curtis D. Boschert. “This payment-extension policy reflects our commitment to work with customers who are experiencing financial difficulties to ensure they continue receiving utility services.”
CPU’s policy makes it possible for customers who are unable to pay their bills through no fault of their own to receive payment extensions and keep the utility services active for up to 60 days.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to serve our customers, and we are confident that these measures will help during these unique times,” Boschert said. “Even so, we encourage customers who are experiencing financial difficulties to contact CPU to work out payment-extension plans.”
As part of COVID-19 precautions, CPU is urging customers to avoid visiting CPU’s office to pay bills and instead use other convenient payment options that comply with social-distancing guidelines. Customers may pay bills from their vehicles via the drive-through window or the kiosk and drop box located on the side of CPU’s building at 416 Third Street.
Those who pay bills via CPU’s online portal, mobile app, phone system or bank draft, or who mail their payments to CPU, are encouraged to continue using those methods.
“Keeping our employees and customers safe during the COVID-19 crisis is our top priority,” Boschert said. “CPU’s office will be open during normal business hours; however, we encourage customers to pay using remote methods, if possible, until further notice.”
