Personalized service is part of Clarksdale Public Utilities’ commitment to customers and includes billing programs that maximize control and convenience. CPU reminds customers that sign-up is free and takes just a few minutes.
“We want to make it as easy and convenient as possible for customers to do business with us,” said Liz Haynes, CPU customer service supervisor. “Having a choice of billing options gives customers more control over their utility accounts, billing cycles and household budgets.”
Providing more customer-oriented programs and services is part of CPU’s “Bright Future” initiative, which focuses on improvements in reliability, innovation and community focus. CPU’s billing and payment programs include:
CPU also offers a payment installment program for customers who experience water leaks that cause high water bills. In addition, CPU strives to work with customers who are experiencing financial difficulties and provides payment extensions up to 10 times a year per customer.
Account alerts are another free and helpful service. Customers can sign up to receive alerts via text or email to know when bills are posted or past due, along with account changes or updates. Haynes noted that this option benefits customers who have experienced delayed or missed bills in the U.S. mail.
Due to ongoing health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, CPU’s lobby remains closed. However, CPU has reopened its west entrance (drive-through side) and is allowing two customers to enter at a time. Face masks are required. Renewed access enables customers to make payments, open and close accounts, and request extensions Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.
Customers may pay bills from their vehicles via the drive-through window or the kiosk and drop box located on the side of CPU’s building. Customers who pay bills via CPU’s online portal, mobile app, phone system or bank draft, or who mail payments to CPU, are encouraged to continue using those methods.
