Security Lighting Helps Enhance Safety and Deter Crime

Fall’s shorter days and longer nights good time to assess needs

Fall is just around the corner. As the season changes and nights become longer, many home and business owners are evaluating ways to keep their properties safe and well-lit. Clarksdale Public Utilities offers affordable private-area lighting solutions to help customers do just that.

According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, security lighting can be an effective crime deterrent because it takes the cover of darkness away from those who wish to do harm. It also helps reduce fall risks by illuminating steps and walkways and can lead to safer, faster response times during emergencies.

“By investing in security lighting, we're not just protecting our homes and businesses,” said Curtis D. Boschert, CPU general manager. “We're creating a safer, more vibrant community for everyone.”

For less than $25 per month, both residential and commercial CPU customers can have wide-area lights installed that will shine bright when it is dark outside. Options include 60- and180-watt LED flood lights.

As an additional service, crews can set a new pole for an extra $1.50 per month if one is not already in place.
