Clarksdale Public Utilities Joins National Public Power Week Celebration

Local control, service and investments are key benefits

From sunrise to sunset, Clarksdale Public Utilities is behind the scenes, powering lives in countless ways. Whether you’re brewing a pot of coffee, checking off daily tasks or relaxing with your favorite show, the safe, reliable, affordable energy we supply makes it possible.

As part of the annual Public Power Week observance, CPU is joining thousands of not-for-profit electric utilities across the nation this Oct. 6-12 to raise awareness about the many ways residents benefit from publicly owned and controlled utilities, such as low rates, high reliability, personalized care and local investments that drive growth.

“Public power is at the heart of our Clarksdale community, and we are dedicated to providing all of our customers with the highest level of service,” said Curtis D. Boschert, CPU general manager. “Being locally owned and operated also means that we can better tailor our operations to meet long-term needs and direct our resources to boost economic development.”

To accomplish this, the utility works closely with civic leaders and elected officials to plan for the future. In fact, it recently launched New Generations, a forward-thinking initiative targeting improved customer service, expanded 24/7 online access options, infrastructure and reliability upgrades, and innovative technologies to optimize system performance.

“Clarksdale already benefits from some of the highest reliability performance in the state, but there is always room for improvement,” said Boschert. “Past projects such as the Riverton electrical upgrade, along with routine tree-trimming and maintenance set us up for a bright future, but we feel that New Generations will ensure success over the next 125 years.”

Public power puts each member of the community first and this celebratory week gives everyone the opportunity to learn more about its advantages. Join CPU on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) or Instagram during the weeklong #publicpower celebration and share what #communitypowered ownership means to you.
